I have a yorkie my first small dog {by the way I am not one of those want to be Paris Hilton girls, I knew the breeder and the pup was a runt who had some health problems and he was going to put her down and I had the funds to help her so now she is the love of my life, I also I have a 60Lb rescue.} Anyways she is going to get fixed the first of next month, she is 7 months old and she has two rows of teeth her baby teeth and now her adult teeth are coming in but the baby teeth are not falling out. Is this common, the vet said sometimes they pull the back teeth due to them falling to fall out but has never mentioned the rest of their teeth. Please, is this common or an issue?
Yorkie and baby teeth?
Yes, it is common for little dogs. Usually it's just a few teeth, but sometimes more. If she hasn't lost them at 7 months they will need to be pulled. Leaving them will let food get caught in between her teeth causing bad breath and poor gum health.
Reply:this happened to my pom - i think it's common in small dogs - the vet pulled out 3 baby teeth when he was fixed - it is the top front row - that was my dog's problem.
Reply:it is not normal, they should fall out and if not your vet needs to pull them out or maby give her something very hard to chew on
Reply:This is not uncommon in toy breeds. The vet can pull the baby teeth when she gets spayed.
Reply:It's very common, no need to worry over it too much. I worked as a Vet Tech for years and I myself would routinely remove the deciduous baby teeth from young dogs whos extra teeth have not fallen out by the 6th month.
Most vet clinics will do this simple procedure while the patient is still asleep from the spay / neuter. Good luck with it.
Reply:this happened with my friend's weiner dog (it was his front teeth too). give it some time, if they don't fall out on their own, you may have to have the vet do it. it isn't too expensive. when you bring her in to get fixed, have the vet take a look and see what they say.
Reply:Call your vet and tell them you want your Yorkie's baby teeth to be checked and extracted if neccessary at the time of the surgery for her to get fixed. That's what is happening to my puppy, Buddy. His baby fangs haven't fallen out and his new teeth are well ont heir way to coming in and the one tooth looks like its pushing the new tooth forward in the mouth. They are hesitant to put him under before as he has a heart murmur and they want him checked out before his surgery. He's on vtamins now.
