Getting oral surgery to expose 2 impacted teeth .. VERY VERY scared and nervous .. any advice??

i have two impacted teeth (on either side of my mouth)

i have braces on, but soon will need oral surgery which would involve:

1) pulling the baby teeth out

2) cutting into my gum to expose the adult teeth

3) attatching a gold chain to the adult teeth

4) hooking the chain to my braces (to gradually pull them down)

has anyone gotten this surgery before? will i recieve general or local anesthesia? will i have any pain during the procedure? should i take any medication before? what pain meds should i take after? what sort of foods will i be able to eat? how much pain will i have after the surgery? how long will it take for my mouth to become normal again and for the pain to stop? will it be disgusting/bloody/gross? how long after the surgery will it take before the adult teeth fully come in? will it affect my speech? are there any after effects? will i still be able to go to school? how intense will the pain be during//after the surgery?

and lastly, any advice on nerves?

Whoa, wouldn't you rather talk about clothes or something? Ok, baby teeth...breeze. Cutting into gum...breeze. Attaching chain...breeze. Gradually pulling them down...drag.

You will have local anesthetic, more than likely. You absolutely will be numb and not feel anything during the proceedure. If you need anything more than advil, the dds will prescribe it.

Afterward, you have a bunch of tissue around your cuspids that won't be sure what to do. In the course of three weeks or so, the tissue will settle down and not be swollen or tender.

You will need to keep this area clean, clean, clean. The benefit is that the mouth will feel lots better.

Pulling these teeth down takes time. Maybe you should chuck a quarter in a jar for every day that the chains are on. When you get them off, have a party to celebrate.

Nerves. Hmm...well, this procedure has been done loads of times. They know what they have to do to keep you comfortable and to heal up as fast as possible.

I know you don't feel lucky, but there a lot of kids who would love to have braces but their parents can't afford it. Good luck, hon.
Reply:Relax...you will wake up and it will all be over.. general anesthesia will be used you will sleep through the whole thing..
Reply:First off relax, you are not the first one who had this done. I never had the braces, but had impacted teeth removed before %26amp; it was no big deal. General or local? Dentist decision, my dentist used Nitrous gas %26amp; a local was all. The actual pulling I was awake for, but with the anesthesia it was no big deal, no pain then, it was numb completely.Afterwards yes it was sore a few days, but no big deal. had enough pain pills for 4 days he gave me %26amp; I never used them all. Soft food, ice cream pudding, soup, soft sandwiches. Remember no straws or any sucking motion the first few days so you do not get a dry socket. The dentist will give you the aftercare instructions. You will bleed, %26amp; keep gauze pads in your mouth a few hours, but again nothing bad. You can still go to school, I went back the same afternoon from the dentist. Not sure how long for your permanent teeth to come in. You will be back to normal before you know it.
