My young adult son has stopped bathing and brushing his teeth. How do I get him to practice good Hygiene?

He doesn't smell or have bad breath

My young adult son has stopped bathing and brushing his teeth. How do I get him to practice good Hygiene?
Ask him why? I know many schizophenrics who early on in the disease, stopped personal hygenie, most because they thought something was the water, soap and toothpaste. I don't want to worry you but find out why he is doing this. It is better to be safe than sorry.
Reply:hes depressed, needs to talk to someone.
Reply:First thing is to find out why he's doing this. Is he depressed? If so, start by getting help with his depression. If its not mental illness, just express tohim the importance of clean hygiene.
Reply:How do you know he's stopped bathing and brushing his teeth then? Could he be doing it somewhere else?

If he doesn't stink or have bad breath then that is suspect... someone who isn't bathing will.. in fact smell... it's inevitable.

When my step-brother stopped practicing good personal hygene my dad told him that he smelled and to go to his room because no one wanted to have to smell his stink... and that was then end of that... My bro started taking better care of himself right away.
Reply:Your his Mother ask him what's up! He sounds depressed. You need to find out. Sit down and talk to him before he does more than just not bathe or brush his teeth, and if he doesn't smell yet he will soon.
Reply:If he does not smell or have bad breath, he could be getting cleaned up somewhere that you don't realize.

Not maintaining his hygiene is one symptom of depression.

Does he have any of the other symptoms of depression?

If not, I think he must be bathing and brushing his teeth in a location that you do not realize. Maybe everything is OK.
