Chihuahua teeth?

I have a chi that is about 6 months old. When I took him to the vet last time they said sometimes they wont loose their baby teeth and that their adult teeth will grow in behind them. I guess kinda like a shark. Anyways they said that I should get the babies pulled after all the adult teeth come in. Well I just looked and he does have adults behind his babies. Should I get them pulled? Anyone ever done this? or will he be ok the way it is? Any info will be great! thanks

Chihuahua teeth?
This is very common with Chihuahuas. If they don't come out, you'll definitely need to have them pulled. If you don't, he'll have a mouth full of abscesses and infections.

If you're planning to have him neutered, you might consider waiting until he's 8 or 9 months old to give the teeth a chance to come out. If they're not out by then, you can just have them taken out when he's neutered. Better to do it that way so he doesn't have to go under anesthesia twice.

Good luck... I hope they come out!
Reply:I've never had any of my puppies teeth pulled. They just soon fall out and the adult teeth come in.
Reply:mine still her baby teeth at age 2 years then they finally fell out, so it really depends on what you want to do give her a lot of teething toys and dog bones
Reply:They will be okay the way it is. I used to do dog shows and trained some dogs and your dog will be just fine. Very rarely is there a problem with this.
Reply:Puppy teeth usually come out by itself between 5 months to 6 months. Give another months. If still there. You should have them pull out.

My puppy had 9 puppy teeth pull out around 8 months old.
Reply:My dog has done this. She pulled out four, for $20 each. They said that if it doesn't get pulled out, bacteria will grow and you're gonna have to get it pulled out anyways so it's best to get it pulled out right now.
Reply:I had a vet tell me the same thing about my pomeranian. Instead of jumping on the surgery i waited because it didn't seem to be causing any problems for my dog at that time. About 3 months later the baby teeth fell out naturally. However, if it looks like your dog is in pain or having any problems because of them; I would go ahead and have them pulled ASAP.
Reply:I think it would be better to wait to see if he has any pain behind it. I think he is too young for his teeth to be pulled. They should come out naturally.
Reply:Chi are renowned for having badly crowded mouths. This make it more important to give them lots of raw meat bones to help prevent periodontal disease. And yes, even tiny chihuahuas love to crunch through a bone!!

The meat will floss between the teeth and massage the gums while the bones scrape plaque and tartar of the teeth. This may help to encourage those baby teeth to fall out too! Think chicken drumsticks or a meaty rib as a meal. Chicken necks and wings are useful but don't have enough meat to be a full meal.

The general ratio to use is 70-80% raw meat, 10-15% edible bones and 10-15% offal (about half liver). Feed about 2-3% of the expected ADULT weight per day - my 16.5 kg dog gets about 400 grams per day and has done since she was a few months old. Just split it over several meals for a pup rather than only one.
Reply:I had my chihuahua's baby teeth pulled when he was 10 months. Some vets reccomend it and others don't. The baby teeth can be painful and have risk of infection if left in too long.
