My husband's tooth (not in the front -more towards the side back) was extracted. The dentist said it was a baby tooth which was odd since he is 24 years old. My question is if it is possible for the adult tooth to come down on its own?
Husband age 24 had a baby tooth extracted will the adult tooth grow out?
Did the dentist check an xray to see if there was a permanent tooth present? If there was no permanent tooth, then no, the adult tooth will not come down because it doesn't exist (also referred to as congenitally missing).
If there is a permanent tooth present, it may come down. But if it is impacted it won't. If it doesn't, some orthodontics could help it out. Ask the dentist if the permanent tooth shows on xray.
Reply:it probably won't because he is older, at least not on its own.. he would have to get something to pull it down, braces? im not sure what but he would need something to help pull it down. ask his dentist
Reply:I would say probably not. Usually baby teeth reabsorb the roots of the adult tooth and then erupt into the mouth. If he is 24 and it has not done that, it is possible that he doesn't have an adult tooth under there, or that it is locked into the bone at this point. I have never seen anything other than wisdom teeth erupt after someone is an adult. Baby teeth dont stop an adult tooth from coming in. If it doesn't come out like it is supposed to, the adult tooth will just come in on the inside or outside of it. Your husbands xrays should tell the dentist if there is a tooth or not. He can probably get a bridge (depending on what tooth it is) or an implant.
Reply:Probally not. But the only way to find out would be to get xrays done and see if there is an adult tooth under the gum.
Reply:The chances of a permanent tooth erupting normally past the age of 25 is almost zero. You may want to consider a little help from an orthodontist. To find out more on impacted tooth management, go to http://www.dentalimplantsaustralia.com/
