Last August I noticed a tooth beginning to protrude from my gums. My family dentist had a look at it and told me that I didn't have anything to worry about for the time being and that it was just an adult tooth that had come late (I'm 20). However, now it seems to be protruding from my gum at a very odd angle and rubbing up against the inside of my lip (it's a canine) and is changing the angle of the adult tooth beside it. The baby canine has yet to fall out. I'm worried as I am a student and have no dental insurance and my family doesn't have much money at this time of the year. I've never had a problem like this before. Should I be worried? Will I need orthodontics?
Adult tooth growing in strangely?
You should go to the dentist and have the baby tooth removed. There's a chance that the permanent tooth will ease into the correct position, or close to it, after that tooth is out of the way. But you may need braces down the road, when you can afford it.
Your dentist should have done something about this a long time ago.
Reply:Well, about the only option I can think of is braces.
Reply:you are twenty and still have a baby canine? You dentist is a moron WARNING IDIOT ALERT and should be replaced immediately.
The baby tooth needs to go and quick before all your other teeth are knocked out of alignment. If you are a full time student your family member that has insurance should be able to get you on their plan with little problem. At least get a second opinion, fast. Many small town dentists have payment options for those uninsured. Do it now while it will stil be manageable, braces are huge money.
Reply:you probably need the tooth pulled asap so it doesn't cause any more damage. another dentist should be able to tell you whether to pull the baby one and fix the other tooth, pull them both, or whatever other options...i obviously am not a dentist. :)
do you have any dentistry schools in your area? if so, call them and ask what it costs to come to the school as a patient. they are always looking for "volunteers" to practice on. the plus is that the student is good plus the dentist they are learning from are GREAT.
also, many dentist offer payment plans. call around and ask. same as orthodontist!
good luck! SD
Reply:Sorry to freak you out, but yes you should be worried. Go to the ortho immeditanty. You might need braces. (It doesn't hurt until you tighten it..ouch)
