Is it possible to place crown on a front baby tooth in adult??

I am a 30 years old male and still have a front baby tooth (never replaced by adult tooth), for cosmetic purposes i want to ask is it possible if i can put a crown on my small teeth to make it look normal like other teeths, or is there any better procedure availabale ??? please help...

Maybe...but there are risks that it could fail.


1. Is it loose at all? If so, then no can do.


2. What sort of root does it have? The bigger the root, then the better your chance of success.


3. Which tooth is it? And how much force will you be exerting on it? Baby laterals are a poor choice; baby canines are better if they have a good root, but you wouldn't want to bring it into a proper functioning occlusion.


4. Is there room either side of the tooth? Ideally, you would only want to put a very light chamfer on this tooth at the gingival margin and not remove any of the remaining crown structure. A bit of access along the side of the tooth would help. Separating elastics may help.


5. You could always try a composite build-up first to see if the size will be what yopu want, bearing in mind the limitations of 3.


6. If you don't want these options, then an implant or cantilever bridge might be the go. If it's a baby canine, then look for the adult tooth - is it impacted?


It's a chancy thing to crown a baby tooth. However, I made a temporary composite bridge for a patient 5 years ago from baby canine to 2nd premolar because she didn't want to have surgery to remove impacted adult canine and then follow with implant. So after 5 years and the composite is surprisingly still holding, we're going to try a fixed bridge.

Reply:You should of had the tooth removed a long time ago.You most likely have to many teeth in you mouth now.Get it pulled.And braces to move other teeth.
Reply:Yes you can get a crown on it. I just had 4 crowns done less than a year ago thanks to military dentists. All they do is ground down your existing tooth to a little nub and put the crown over it.





That is assuming that you have enough room in your mouth for that tooth and they would most likely take the molding from your existing adult tooth. It will be different and more difficult for the dentist, because he/she will have a hard time making sure that the tooth fits properly against the surrounding teeth.





One of the crowns that I had put in was a little too high and I was unable to bite down completely where all of my teeth would connect. They had to go back in and ground it down for it to fit better. The best thing to do is go to your dentist and ask he/she if they are able to do that procedure. Good Luck!!
Reply:Talk to your dentist about options. Bonding is one option that is less expensive than crowns.
