My daughter fell and hit her front teeth. Now one of them is gray... Anyone else who has had this happen???

At the time of the fall, her teeth looked fine, but her gums were all bruised and bloody. Now that her gums have healed, one of her front top teeth is gray. She is only 2, so they are baby teeth of course.

I've read about this online, and learned that teeth can become bruised. Sometimes it heals and the tooth even turns back to white, best case scenario. Worst case seems to be that it could become abcessed and need to be pulled, and she would have to look like a pumpkin until she gets her adult teeth. I REALLY hope that doesnt happen, but I know we just have to wait and see.

What I want to know is if anyone else has had a child with this same problem. I'd like to know if its more common for the tooth to turn out fine, or for it to need pulled. Thanks!

Unfortunately, this happened to my nephew and after it turned gray it ended up having to be pulled. There are such great alternatives now -- I'd suggest a visit to the dentist because he should be able to tell you what's going on right away.
Reply:I don't have a child with this problem but one of my friends, when I was in 5th grade, fell out of a chair and hit her teeth on the floor. Now, ten years later, they're still gray!? Her color didnt go away. *Since they're baby teeth it's not permanent.
Reply:It's possible that the nerve was affected, in which case the tooth will die. If you haven't seen a dentist yet, you need to. Hopefully her permanent tooth will not be affected, and perhaps you don't have to pull the baby tooth...but you need to check with a professional.

At the age of 10 I fell and chipped my 2 front teeth. I was at the dentist the same day, getting checked out. Luckily, the nerve didn't die so my teeth are fine now as an adult, except that the chip is still slightly visible.
Reply:My younger brother had that happen. His tooth remained grey until it fell out.
Reply:I fell off of bunk beds when I was four years old.

The grey tooth thing happened. My parents said I had a gray tooth for the better part of six months.

They thought the issue was over. It wasn't. When I lost all of my baby teeth I ended up getting the next tooth in with a bright yellowish/brown color right in the middle. The dentist ended up putting me under [I was seven at the time and thought it was awesome! lol] drilling a hole in that tooth and filling it in with the shade closer to my tooth's color.

Sounds like a lot but it really didn't make a difference to me. Hopefully, you'll have dental insurance [if you don't already] when the time comes. She'll be fine. I hope this helps! Best of Luck!
Reply:if the tooth is grey, that means its dead... and needs to be pulled out by a dentist before it affects the permanent teeth... if you wait too long that dead tooth can affect the adult ones..
Reply:She busted the nerve in her tooth. It happened to my mom...
Reply:I had this happen with my son when he was about 2 or 3 he hit his 2 front teeth on his crib they ended up turning a grey color went to dentist and had him checked out and he said that all was fine just that the nerve had died and if they gave him any problems bring him back and they would pull them.. but he was fine had to go around with grey teeth for a while but then he lost them and he now has 2 beautiful adult teeth....
Reply:yes, almost same thing happen to my daughter, except it involved her two front teeth...took her to dentist and he said wait and see...well...the two injured teeth ending up abcessing and went into the tooth on each side of the original two teeth....so she ended up having to get the four front teeth out...surgically...so my advice would be to keep a close watch, and if a dentist says wait and see....get a second opinion....good news...her teeth came in perfectly and she has a beautiful set of teeth and great smile.
Reply:you should bring her to a dentist.they are the best at determining this stuff
Reply:What did the dentist say? you did take her right?
Reply:Both of my sons got the grey tooth as toddlers. They were wild little ones. They weren't abscessed. They stayed grey until they fell out naturally at age 7 or so. Their permanent teeth came in shortly afterward and they were white. They are teenagers now and still have very nice white teeth.

She is not too young to visit a dentist. Check to see if their is a pediatric dentist in your area.
Reply:I would just take them to the dentist and let them look at it... Just my opinion...
Reply:My daughter who is now almost 10 was on a folding chair when she was about 4 and it collapsed and she ended up biffing on the table on her way down. I am one of those panicy mothers, so we went to the dentist and she said that it was damaged by the fall but when the adult tooth came through it would b fine....and it was!
Reply:The same thing happened to my son, minus the blood. He was 3 at the time. The (front) baby tooth died and turned grey but the dentist saw no reason to remove the tooth, since it holds a place for the permanent one and the gum did not become infected. I had to keep an eye on the area and finally about 2 years after the accident the tooth had to be pulled. Best of luck.
Reply:Same thing happened to my daughter, (both front teeth) at about same age. No treatment was done Adult teeth came in perfectly.
